Año tras año me sorprende ver como una ciudad de 5 millones de habitantes se vacía en tan solo 24 horas.
Tal día como hoy, 1 de Agosto, Milán se va de vacaciones: Oficinas, fabricas, negocios, restaurantes, bares, supermercados y hasta farmacias cierran sus santamarias para unirse a las kilométricas caravanas de automoviles que llenan las autopistas italianas y europeas.
Suena drástico e inverosímil, pero es así. Incluso el ayuntamiento de Milán publica un libreto pequeño, tipo paginas amarillas, llamado "Milano Aperta ad Agosto" donde vienen señalados todos los negocios de primera necesidad que quedan abiertos para poder suplir a los turistas que nos visitan y a los pocos habitantes que desafortunadamente no pueden partir de vacaciones.
He pensado un poco el porqué de este fenómeno que ya forma parte de la cultura ciudadana Milanesa, y he aquí mi teoría:
Milán es una ciudad 100% industrial, es la capital económica de Italia, donde las mas importantes empresas italianas tienen sede. Aquí todo es asfalto y edificios, hay pocos parques y sitios verdes, solo hay trabajo, mucho trabajo y stress. Si unimos este factor social con su ubicación geográfica: un Valle al norte de Italia, sin playas (la mas cercana esta a 2 horas), ni ríos, ni espacios naturales alrededor; y teniendo en cuenta de que en diciembre (que es cuando en Venezuela se acostumbra vacacionar) aquí es invierno y pocos vacacionan, tendremos el porqué de este fenómeno: Después de 1 año de trabajo continuo, sin momentos de relax, solo trabajo, es lógico que todos elijan los cálidos días de agosto para divertirse en el mar, en la montaña o en las capitales de Europa.
Hoy es un día de fiesta, las sonrisas en la calle se regalan por doquier, la gente anda feliz, al punto que se mandan mails y se hacen llamadas a los conocidos y amigos para desear "Buone Vacanze", tal como se desean buenos deseos en navidad o año nuevo.
Yo por mi parte me sumo a la "cultura milanesa" y me tomo unas muy merecidas y deseadas vacaciones: en unas horas parto para Alemania a relajarme junto a mi familia, y dentro de unos días iré a un lugar que desde tanto tiempo quiero conocer, sentir y vivir: TURQUIA... (luego les contaré que tal.)
